| Bodice (Bod' iss) - the upper part of the garment covering the torso. Comes from the Renaissance period term "pair of bodys" which was shortened into the word "bodice". | |||||
| Chemise (Sha mees') - french work for "dress". This is the long undergarment worn under the gown or bodice to protect the clothing from getting soiled by the body oils. This is the bottom-most layer of clothing worn and is considered the underwear, not to be shown in public, except perhaps for the sleeves. At the very least, a bodice and skirt are always worn over the chemise. | |||||
| Doublet (Dub' let) - the vest worn by men in the Renaissance period. This is the equovalent of the women's bodice. | |||||
| Epaulets - "wings" or caps on the shoulders of our "Deluxe" bodices and men's Doublets. | |||||
| Grommet - the "eyelet" or two piece metal ring set into corsets, bodices and doublets that the lacing goes through. | |||||
| Peasant Blouse - a shorter version of the "chemise", worn underneath bodices as an undergarment to prevent the body's oils from soiling the garment. This is the under-most layer of clothing, considered underwear and always worn with a bodice over it. Peasant blouses are usually paired with skirts, as they are not full length, as the chemises are. | |||||
| Picadils - scallops or tabs at the edge of a garment. In this case, picadils are the tabs at the waistline of the "Deluxe" versions of our bodices and our men's Doublets. | |||||
