Fabric
Care Instructions:
Cottons
Muslins and broadcloths for chemises, skirts and men's shirts, can
be machine washed or hand washed in cold water, to prevent the color
from fading. Whites and off-whites can be washed in warm or hot
water as needed. As all of these fabrics are 100% cotton, and we
all know how cotton shrinks, hanging everything to dry is highly
recommend. Putting natural fabrics in the dryer also shortens
the fabric's life span and your garment will not last as long. A
warm iron can be run over your cottons if you desire a crisp look
after hanging dry. Garments with grommets can be put in the washing
machine with no adverse effects. Again, putting these garments in
the dryer is not recommended.
Velveteens,
Brocades and Tapestries
Dry cleaning is recommended for velveteens, brocades and tapestries.
These fabrics have special finishes and contents that might be ruined
in the washing machine. The raised design threads on the brocades
might also be ruined if put in the washing machine. Also, bodices
contain metal boning, which might not do well in the washing machine.
Boning could twist and break. All steel boning is finished with
a white plastic coating to prevent rust.
